MARKEL USES HORSE SENSE TO HELP THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION

As part of our office’s commitment to the community in Lexington, we are delighted to team up with one of our specialist equine insurance agencies and Wintergreen Stallion Station in order to guarantee a season to BORREGO that is being offered for auction in order to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a non-profit, donor supported charity organization - more information about the foundation can be found at http://www.cff.org. The net proceeds of the auction of the season to BORREGO, who stands at Wintergreen Stallion Station, will be donated to the foundation.
Markel’s involvement came when both myself and Dianne met with parties from Wintergreen, the Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN) and Muirfield Insurance Agency at the beginning of the Keeneland April two-year-old sale. When we learned that Wintergreen and Rossi’s Restaurant were offering a no-guarantee season to BORREGO in order to benefit such a worthy charity, we knew that we could assist with trying to raise more money for the foundation by using insurance to guarantee the season.
BORREGO stands for $12,500 live foal. He was multiple graded stakes placed at 3 and won the Pacific Classic and Jockey Club Gold Cup, both Grade 1’s, at 4. In both of those races he equaled the track record for a mile and a quarter. BORREGO’s first foals are yearlings of 2009 and a weanling colt from his first crop sold for $175,000 at the Keeneland November Sale.
There is still time to contact Wintergreen regarding this season and interested parties should contact Tammy at Wintergreen Stallion Station at 859-846-9677.
